Durga Puja is not only the biggest festival of Bengali Hindus, it is also the most significant socio-cultural event of the Bengali society. It starts from the Mahalaya Day when the Devi paksha (Fortnight of the Goddess) starts and ends on the (Maha) Dashami day.

Welcome to Alaknanda Puja Samiti

Durga Puja, the most important festival for the Bengalis, is an autumn festival. It recalls the power of female (shakti), symbolized by the goddess Durga who slays Mahisasura to re-establish peace and prosperity on earth. It is also known as Akal Bodhan which was started by Lord Rama, when he worshipped goddess Durga to gain strength to fight Ravana. The Bengalis celebrate that win of all good over evil, every year by worshipping goddess Durga.
